Mental Health Counselor
JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:
Screen students for mental health needs and provide diagnostic assessment and therapeutic treatment as appropriate. Services may involve crisis intervention; acting as liaison between clients, families, and community agencies; and providing school-based mental health services and referrals for students and families to appropriate mental health resources. The Mental Health Counselor will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and work collaboratively with other agencies.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Screening and assessment of youth, treatment planning, and ongoing therapy;
Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services;
Crisis assessments and follow-up services: referrals, brief family therapy, phone calls, case management;
Paperwork: charting, assessments, and reports, following State guidelines;
Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals;
Submit accurate monthly reports and other required paperwork;
Participate in staff development, training, and clinical supervision as needed.
Attend meetings as required.
Must be designated as a State of Nevada qualified mental health professional (QMHP). Must have a minimum of Master’s degree with State of Nevada Licensure as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW); marriage & family therapist (MFT); or licensed clinical professional counselor (LPC) Prior experience in diagnostic assessment, crisis intervention, therapeutic treatment of psychiatric patients, and supervision preferred.
